For people with visual impairments, perceptions about the world are created with the senses, but how does sensory input translate to graphics in the online learning environment? Providing information-rich educational graphics is a cornerstone of many online courses; however, ensuring they are accessible to all learners can sometimes be a challenge for faculty. In this session, participants will learn how to provide descriptive alternative text and how to utilize the context of an image to inform the text replacement. Participants will work in small groups to discuss and present alternative text for a variety of graphics, such as maps, graphs, bar charts, diagrams, and art work.
